When repairing or restoring a Mac with a CDROM or DVDROM drive, you may need to install the operating system from CD or DVD. Creating those bootable install CDs or DVDs from a Windows computer can be a problem if you don't know a few tricks.
Here is what worked for me when I recently needed to burn the installation discs in order to repair one of these computers.
Most Windows software that can burn CDs or DVDs will NOT allow you to burn Mac disc images in the .DMG format.
TransMac is a program for Windows computers that will successfully burn bootable Mac .DMG disc images onto CD or DVD. After burning discs using this program, the Mac will successfully start up from the CD, and allow you to reinstall the operating system, or do whatever else you wish to do.
